History

Phoenix Baptist Church saw its humble beginnings in 1976, with the vision of the late Rev Israel Moses. He, together with his congregation at the Asheville Baptist Church, labored vigorously in the Phoenix area.

In 1983 the church called for its first full time pastor, the Rev Edward Moses, and later in 1989, the Rev Francis Benjamin to serve as the minister. The church witnessed the hand of God upon their lives and saw the ministry grow rapidly on all frontiers.

The new millennium marked a visible transition in the journey of Phoenix Baptist Church. The church embarked on building a five hundred seated auditorium as well as a fellowship hall. Our people were committed and determined to overcome any struggle to complete this project. The time and energy together with finances that were invested in unfolding this new building was enormous. The speed and the intensity in which Phoenix Baptist Church grew was truly phenomenal.

I believe that exciting times are ahead and Jesus will continue to pour His blessing on His people as we advance the kingdom of God.

Rev. Leslie Benjamin

Vision

Our vision seeks to focus the attention of all believers on the central command of God’s word and to establish a culture of evangelism and discipleship. We are called to grow and mature and not maintain ourselves.

Today as for all times our mandate remains “HIS LAST COMMANDMENT, OUR FIRST CONCERN”

(Matthew 28. V19-20)
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

What we believe

Phoenix Baptist Church believes that the word of God is eternal and unchanging in our everchanging society. In this undisciplined age the church needs to preach the unadulterated word that possesses and declares indefectible authority.

We believe that the bible is the inspired, infallible word of God, written by holy men of God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

We believe in the Triune, God…
FATHER – SON – HOLY SPIRIT

We believe in the Death, Burial and Resurrection of Jesus Christ
We believe in the Ordinances of Baptism and Communion
We believe in the Priesthood of all believers
We believe in the catching away of saints (Rapture)

When Jesus returns in the clouds of Glory to take his people to heaven (1 Thess. 4 v13-18)
We believe that there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved (Acts 4 v12)
